Bible Lessons on "Philippians"

Introduction. This series examines a letter written to the Christians in Philippi (on the north shore of the Aegean Sea) by Paul while a prisoner in Rome around 62 or 63 A.D.

Based on a vision/direction from the Holy Spirit, about 10 years prior he had travelled from Asia Minor (modern day Turkey) to Macedonia (modern day  Greece). There in Philippi, the chief city in the region, he had established a congregation with the initial conversion of Lydia (Acts 16).

Notable for the encouragement of Phil. 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.", Philippians explores what it means to walk through the trials and pains of this life in a Christ-like way. Paul spends considerable time examining the example of Christ who valued humility and obedience to God over personal glory and comfort. He encourages his readers to strive to live out of that ultimate example.
