Bible Lessons on "1 & 2 Thessalonians"

Introduction. This series examines the two epistles written by Paul around 50 A.D. to Christians in the city of Thessalonica (now in northern Greece) after Timothy had visited them and reported back to Paul. In the first epistle, after giving thanks for their faith, he reminds them of how he had conducted himself honorably while with them, even physically laboring to financially support himself to avoid being a burden to them. After reminding them to be faithful, he explains that when Jesus returns, the dead will be resurrected first and long with the faithful will meet Jesus in the air (1 Thess. 4:13-18). In the second epistle, he corrects their misunderstanding that they could quit working and become a burden on others while waiting for the "imminent" return of the Lord.
