What happened in Acts 2?
Introduction. As many of you know, the Book of Acts is the history book of the New Testament. It covers about 32 years of history (from about A.D. 30 to A.D. 62). Acts chapter two is particularly replete with important events.
Acts chapter two records many beginnings and prophetic fulfillments. Acts two records the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the case of the apostles (2: 1-13). Jesus had promised them this baptism (Acts 1: 5; John 16: 13). Acts two was the beginning of the age of the gospel in its fullness (vss. 14-40). The official beginning of "whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" and the inception of the church are also recorded in Acts two (see vss. 21, 37-41, 47). Key prophecies such as Joel 2: 28-32 and Isaiah 2: 2, 3 were fulfilled in Acts two (see vss. 16-21).
The events of Acts chapter two. The first event is the apostles being baptized in the Spirit (vss. 1-13). The apostles miraculously spoke to all the people present in their own language (vss. 4, 7, 8). Peter preached (used the keys of the kingdom, Matt. 16: 19) to the people (vss. 14-40). A number wanted to know what to do to be saved and Peter told them (vss. 37, 38). The apostles performed "many wonders and signs (vs. 43). A physical need arose and was met (vss. 44, 45). Luke tells us, "And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved " (vs. 47 KJV).
Acts chapter two is singularly important, as you can see. We look to the Book of Acts, as well as the other books of the New Testament, in order to continue the same preaching and to have the Lord's church today - Acts two is a foundation chapter in this matter.
